Problem:

After every HotSync, when I launch Documents To Go, I am asked for my registration number and activation key.

Solution:

Reactivate Documents To Go on your desktop computer. After the message that activation is complete, synchronize again.

Before synchronizing, make sure that the System conduit in HotSync Custom is set to 'Handheld overwrites Desktop' and that it is set as the default. The Backup conduit is called System in the HotSync > Custom dialog.  By default, the Backup conduit is set to backup (Handheld overwrites Desktop). The Backup conduit copies all files from the Palm to the Backup folder on the PC after synchronization of all conduits. This allows new changes to be stored incase you lose data on the Palm.

It is possible, but not advisable, to change that behavior.  If you set it to Desktop overwrites Handheld, the Backup conduit will restore the items in the Backup folder to the Palm.  If you make that the default option, then the Backup conduit will restore the items in the Backup folder to the Palm every time you sync. This means any update during HotSync will be overwritten by the backup conduit and could cause problems with future synchronizations.

If the problem persists on the desktop,  please try the following steps:

1) Reboot your computer

2) Run the Windows Registry Editor

  1. Click on the Start menu
  2. Click Run
  3. Type "regedit" and click OK

3) Delete the following entry form the Registry

   The key "4xxx" or "5xxx" from HKey_Local_Machine\Software\DataViz Inc\Common\Keys

4) Close the Windows Registry

5) Open Documents To Go on the desktop

6) Activate the software

7) Close Documents To Go

8) Change the Documents To Go HotSync Action to "Desktop Overwrites Handheld"

  1. Click on the HotSync icon in the System Tray (near the clock)
  2. Select Custom
  3. Double-click Documents To Go
  4. Select 'Desktop Overwrites Handheld'
  5. Click OK
  6. Click Done

9) Make sure the System Conduit in HotSync Custom is set to "Handheld Ovewrites Desktop"

  1. Click on the HotSync icon in the System Tray (near the clock)
  2. Select Custom
  3. If System is not set to "Handheld overwrites Desktop," double-click on 'System'
  4. Select 'Handheld Overwrites Desktop'
  5. Check the box next to 'Set as Default"
  6. Click OK
  7. Click Done

10) Synchronize your handheld

This should allow Documents To Go to activate on both the desktop and your hadnheld. It should also maintain the activation in the product.
