Question:
How do I import from or export to an Access database?
Answer:
SmartList To Go integrates with Microsoft Access via synchronization relationships called Sync Configurations. A Sync Configuration associates a SmartList with a table in an Access database. Sync Configurations are executed during HotSync operations by the SmartList To Go Conduit. A Sync Configuration describes how data records will be transferred between the SmartList and the Access table. In the SmartList To Go Desktop application, either use the Synchronize option when creating a new SmartList or go to the Data Link tab to create a Sync Configuration.
One requirement for Sync Configurations is that the Access table has a primary key. This is because a unique identifier is needed to match the record in the Access table with the corresponding record in the SmartList. If you do not have a primary key, please see this document for suggestions: What if my Access table doesn't have a primary key?
If you only want to do a one-time import (or export) with the Access database, you have two options:
-
Export from Access to a text file and then import that into the SmartList. (Or, export from the SmartList and import into Access.)
-
Set up a Sync Configuration on a temporary basis. That is, set up the Sync Configuration, HotSync to transfer the data, then either delete or disable the Sync Configuration.
