Question:

How do I install Documents To Go on my Windows Mobile handheld?

Answer:

The installer for Documents To Go for Windows Mobile is a ".CAB" file. There are two basic ways to install it on your Windows Mobile handheld:

  • Download & install it directly to the handheld using an internet connection
  • Download it to a computer first, then copy it to the handheld and install it

Installing Documents To Go through the handheld's internet connection is usually the easiest method. If you choose to download the installer file to a computer and then copy it to the handheld, there are several methods to do so. Please review the options below and decide which one best suits your needs.

Over The Air (OTA) installation:

  1. Open the web browser on your Windows Mobile device and go to http://www.dataviz.com (it should redirect you to http://www.dataviz.com/handheld).
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the product page and select the link for "View My Software" or "My Products".
  3. Log in with your last name & registration number if prompted to do so.
  4. On the "Your Registered Products" page, scroll down to find the product you want to download and select the link for "Click to download software".
  5. On the next page, select the download link and follow the on-screen steps to complete the download.
  6. When the download is complete, open that file to start the installation (if necessary, use the File Browser application to locate and open the file you downloaded).

Installation from a computer:

NOTE: On a desktop computer, the CAB file often shows up with a ZIP icon, even though it is not really a ZIP file. Do NOT unzip the CAB file. Instead, use one of the following methods to copy that CAB file to your Windows Mobile device.

Use the link provided to you when you purchased Documents To Go (or go to the DataViz Download Site) to download the CAB file to your computer. Then you need to copy that file to your handheld, and use the handheld's File Browser application to locate and open it to start the installation. Here are a few suggestions for copying the CAB file to your handheld:

  • ActiveSync Desktop Software (Windows only)
If you have the ActiveSync desktop software installed on your Windows computer, connect your Windows Mobile device to the computer, and use ActiveSync to copy the CAB file to the folder of the handheld memory or memory card. If you do not know how to do so, please refer to the documentation that came with your handheld or ActiveSync software. Once the CAB file is on your device, open it to start the installation.

NOTE: Microsoft does not currently make a version of ActiveSync for the Mac OS. If you have a Mac, you can install Documents To Go to your device using one of the following options.

  • Bluetooth
If your computer and Windows Mobile device are both equipped with Bluetooth, you can wirelessly send the CAB file to the handheld. If you do not know how to send files from your computer using Bluetooth, please refer to the documentation that came with your computer or Bluetooth hardware. On a Windows computer, you can normally right-click on the file and select Send To > Bluetooth. Once the CAB file is on your device, open it to start the installation.

  • Expansion card
If you have a compatible card reader, you can copy the CAB file to your expansion card. After copying the file to the card, insert the card into the handheld, then use the File Manager application to locate the file. Open the CAB file to start the installation.

  • Email attachment
If you have an internet connection on your handheld, you can send the CAB file to yourself as an email attachment from your computer. Open the email on the handheld and download the attachment. When the download is complete, open the CAB file to start the installation.
