Question:
How can I copy files to my BlackBerry from a computer?
Answer:
Depending on which version & edition of Documents To Go for BlackBerry you have, you can either synchronize files between your BlackBerry and a computer, or you can copy files from one to the other.
Synchronize files:
If you are using the Premium Edition of Documents To Go 2.0 or higher, you have the option to synchronize your documents between your computer and BlackBerry via USB cable:
-
Desktop Synchronization (Premium Edition of version 2.0 or higher)
Windows users can easily sync files between their computer and BlackBerry via USB cable. Once the files are set to sync, any edits made will automatically be transferred upon synchronization. Synchronization occurs between a program called "Documents To Go Desktop for BlackBerry" on your computer, and an app called "Documents To Go Files" on your BlackBerry. These are add-on applications that are installed separately from the main Documents To Go apps (Word To Go, Sheet To Go, Slideshow To Go).
How can I synchronize files between my BlackBerry and a desktop computer?
Copy files:
Even if you cannot synchronize, there are several ways to copy files from your computer to your BlackBerry (or from your BlackBerry to your computer). Here are a few suggestions:
-
Mass Storage Mode
You can copy files to your BlackBerry by connecting it to a computer with a USB cable and enabling Mass Storage Mode on the handheld. Mass Storage Mode allows you to mount a Media Card (and Device Memory on some models) as a storage drive on the computer. This is usually the best option if you have a Media Card, or if you have a BlackBerry model that supports mounting the Device Memory via Mass Storage Mode.

-
Media Manager
You can copy files to your BlackBerry by connecting it to a computer with a USB cable and using the Media Manager application, which is part of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. The Media Manager allows you to access files on the Device Memory of any model, so this is usually the best option if you do not have a Media Card and your BlackBerry does not support mounting the Device Memory via Mass Storage Mode.

Bluetooth
You can wirelessly copy files to the handheld if your computer and Blackberry are both equipped with Bluetooth. If you need help using Bluetooth on your computer, please refer to the documentation that came with your computer or Bluetooth hardware.

Card reader
You can copy files to your BlackBerry if you have a Media Card for your BlackBerry and a card reader for your computer. Take the media card out of the BlackBerry and insert it into the card reader. The card will mount as a disk on your computer, just like using Mass Storage Mode. You can copy files to the Documents folder on the Media Card, or to another folder of your choice. You can also copy files from the card to the computer.
-
Email attachment
You can send files as email attachments from your computer to your BlackBerry if it can download native email attachments. Open the email on the handheld and download the attachment (save it to the Device Memory or Media Card first, or open it directly from the email).
