How do I set up Documents To Go to sync my Gmail or Microsoft Exchange attachments on an iPhone OS 3.0/3.1 device?

Question:

How do I set up Documents To Go to sync my Gmail or Microsoft Exchange attachments on an iPhone OS 3.0/3.1 device?

Answer:

NOTE: If you are using an iPad or iOS 4 device, attachments can be opened directly from the Mail app so you do not need to set up your email account in Documents To Go. Click here for more info.

If you are using an iPhone or iPod touch with OS 3.0 or 3.1, attachments cannot be opened in Documents To Go directly from the built-in Mail app. In order to sync Gmail or MS Exchange attachments with Documents To Go, you will need to enter your settings in the Documents To Go app by following the appropriate set of steps below:

 

Gmail/Google Sync:

To setup Gmail attachment synchronization:

  1. Open Documents To Go on your device.
  2. Tap the Settings button (gears) in the upper left corner of the main screen.
  3. Tap on "Add New Account" under the "Email Accounts" section.
  4. Select "Gmail".
  5. Enter your Server Settings and tap the Save button at the top of the screen:

    Description: Type a description for your account.

    Username: If you have a 'username@gmail.com' or 'username@googlemail.com' address, enter only the 'username' (you do not need to include '@gmail.com' or '@googlemail.com'). If you use Google Apps, enter your full address in the format 'username@your_domain.com'.

    Password: The password you use to log into your account.

You are now ready to sync your Gmail attachments to the "Attachments" section of Documents To Go.

 

MS Exchange ('Documents To Go Premium' only):

To setup MS Exchange attachment synchronization:

  1. Open Documents To Go on your device.
  2. Tap the Settings button (gears) in the upper left corner of the main screen.
  3. Tap on "Add New Account..." under the "Email Accounts" section.
  4. Select "Microsoft Exchange".
  5. Enter your MS Exchange server settings. (What are my Exchange Server settings?)
  6. After entering your Settings, tap the Save button at the top of the screen.

You are now ready to sync your MS Exchange email attachments to the "Attachments" section of Documents To Go.
